Quantify and Identify Air Leakage in the Building Envelope of an E-House:
The performance of the building envelope of an E-House can be measured and air leakage locations identified using blower door equipment to both depressurize and pressurize the structure. Building envelope testing is an important (and often overlooked) part of the E-House QC and evaluation process.
How is an E-House Blower Door Tested?
A powerful fan, framework and shroud is setup in an exterior door of a building or structure. Data from a series of depressurization and pressurization readings at a variety of fan speeds is entered into software to quantify the performance of the building envelope. A standard goal (required by energy codes in some states) is to achieve .40 or less CFM of air leaks per SF of building envelope at -75 pascals of pressure. The blower door test typically will include use of smoke to identify air leaks, infra-red camera imagery (depending on temperature differential) and our expertise at finding air leakage locations.
Our Blower Door Testing Equipment:
One or more Minneapolis or Retrotec brand blower door systems can be configured to test buildings. Accurate-Airtight Enclosures also has an inventory of gasoline engine powered G-54 blower door systems (right) to test very large structures.
Call Us for Your Building Envelope Testing Needs:
Call us to evaluate the building envelope of an E-House, or any other structure. Our testing can certify the air leakage rate of a building for code compliance and will lead to improvements in your manufacturing process.

About Accurate-Airtight Enclosures: Accurate-Airtight Enclosures specializes in building diagnostics, energy audits, air sealing, and insulation. The company is noted for its’ expertise in blower-door testing, especially testing large commercial or multi-family structures. “Our company has traveled all over the U.S. doing building envelope testing. We have tested a lot of Army Corps of Engineers buildings for example” said Accurate-Airtight President Torrance Kramer.
